Super League: Castleford Tigers 32-15 Wakefield Trinity - Hosts battle back to secure derby win

Castleford came from behind to ease to a derby win over Wakefield.

Cheyse Blair, Derrell Olpherts and James Clare went over for the hosts but Joe Westerman and Tom Johnstone crossed for Trinity before Jacob Miller's drop goal saw them lead 15-14 at the break.

Clare's second put the Tigers back in front just after the restart.

Trinity's James Batchelor was sent to the sin-bin for a professional foul and Ollie Holmes and Olpherts both went over when Wakefield were down to 12.

Castleford came into the game off the back of a 36-18 defeat at Catalans Dragons last time out and fell behind in the opening stages when Westerman scored against his former side.

The lead changed hands five times in an evenly-contested first half, with Miller landing a well-struck drop-goal in testing conditions with the final kick of the half.

The second half was a far more one-sided affair, with the hosts putting the game out of reach when Batchelor was in the sin-bin for a professional foul on Oliver Holmes.

Wakefield had Romain Navarette sent to the sin-bin late on as the Tigers recorded a 14th straight win over their local rivals and moved second in the Super League table and level on points with leaders Huddersfield.

Castleford coach Daryl Powell:

"At half-time we spoke about upping our intensity a bit. "The main thing was getting bit a more control in the game and spend some time attacking their tryline.

"They dominated territory in the first half and we needed to flip that, which we did.

"There's lots of improvement in us but we've won three from four and it's a great start from us. We're in a good place."

Wakefield coach Chris Chester:

"We were awful in that second half. We've gone from producing a really disciplined performance last week to being the worst disciplined team in the competition.

"I'm disappointed with some individuals. We sent out a message last week about rewarding players but there will be some guys dropping down this week. Some individuals really let this team down.

"It was probably the best opportunity we've had for a long time to beat Cas.

"I thought we were the best side in the first half but in the second half we were defensively soft and our discipline was very poor."
