Super League: Lee Radford sacked after Hull beaten by Warrington

Lee Radford was sacked as head coach of Hull FC immediately after their heavy home defeat by Warrington.

Hull FC chief executive Adam Pearson told a live television interview and 5 Live Sports Extra that Radford had been sacked, minutes after the 38-4 loss.

Pearson had not even informed the players who were left in the dressing room.

Radford, who was appointed back in 2013, led Hull to two Challenge Cup successes in seven years at the club.

"I have just had a conversation with Lee Radford and decided we are going to go in a different direction now," said Pearson.

"I have asked Andy Last and Keiron Purtill to take the team from tomorrow morning and galvanise the players and get back on the bike.

"We had to make a change because of the home form. The pressure has become too great and therefore I have had to make that change.

"He is one of the most hard-working coaches I have come across. He has honesty and has just taken it like the chap you would expect and the man that he is. It is not a decision that gives me any pleasure.

"We have a big supporter base here and they need to see winning and entertaining rugby at home."

It was a miserable night for Radford and Hull, who were only spared the indignity of being blanked on their home pitch by Kieran Buchanan's try from the last play of the game.

Warrington never looked back from Blake Austin's third-minute try, but it was a game littered with errors from both sides.

One of many Hull mistakes led to Warrington's second try as Tom Lineham used the wet conditions to slide over in the left-hand corner as the visitors opened up a 12-point half-time lead.

The home side - not helped by the loss of Mahe Fonua to a rib injury - left the field to boos and worse was to follow in the second half.

Gareth Widdop scored two second-half tries as he twice used his speed to leave Hull floundering, while Austin added his second and Ben Murdoch-Masila went under the posts on his 100th Super League appearance.

Anthony Gelling was also a try scorer on his return after missing the past four matches following his arrest in Widnes on 8 February.
