Warrington beat Hull FC 38-4 in Super League on Thursday

The Rugby Football League has said "fixtures remain in place for the weekend" despite elite football in England being suspended until at least 3 April as a result of the spread of coronavirus.

But Leeds Rhinos will not be travelling to Catalans for Saturday's Super League game after one of their players showed symptoms of the virus.

Salford Red Devils, who host Wigan in Super League on Friday, have asked fans to "avoid unnecessary physical contact with each other and players".

The RFL added in a statement: "At all times the RFL has followed and is following the government's guidance as requested.

"We will of course monitor the position carefully for any changes and communicate in due course should any update be required."

As well as Super League, several fifth-round Challenge Cup ties are also set to take place this weekend.

Super League side Hull KR said the absence of confirmed cases of coronavirus in rugby league is the reason play will continue.

"The decision to postpone football games is not to do with public gatherings, but because of workforce issues, (positive tests and other cases among players/staff)," Hull KR said in a statement on their website., external

Rovers are scheduled to face Championship club Leigh Centurions at Craven Park on Sunday in the Challenge Cup and have issued advice to supporters, urging those who display coronavirus symptoms or who have returned from an infected region to stay away.

Fans have also been asked not to approach players and staff, with everything from handshakes to photographs with them off limits.

There will also be no junior mascots to walk onto the pitch with players, or flag bearers.

"We thank fans for their understanding and support in helping us handle what is an unprecedented situation for all," Rovers added.
