Tui Lolohea contributed 22 points to Salford's second victory of the Super League campaign

Salford Red Devils ensured a nightmare start for Hull FC interim head coach Andy Last with a dominant Super League victory at Emerald Headingley.

Last season's Grand Finalists trailed after an early Albert Kelly try but never fell behind again.

There were two tries apiece for Tui Lolohea, Rhys Williams and Ken Sio, to add to scores by Chris Atkin, Luke Yates, Kris Welham and Niall Evalds.

Manu Ma'u and Jamie Shaul also crossed for Hull, who slumped to a fifth loss.

It was only 22-12 at half-time, but the Red Devils showed their class in a one-sided second half.

Last had to wait five months for his first game in charge but despite some promising moments, Hull still had the same defensive issues as under Lee Radford, who was sacked in the aftermath of March's 38-4 home defeat by Warrington.

Conversely, the game marked an impressive upturn for Salford, who had failed to back up their 2019 form in the early stages before lockdown but now have their second win of the campaign.

Lolohea, in particular, was a major influence, with his short kicking game and variety of passing a real threat, and Evalds was another bright spot after keeping signing Morgan Escare out of the side.

In keeping with last weekend's post-restart vibe, the game was played at breakneck pace and with impressive ferocity by two teams in action for the first time in five months.

Kelly gave Hull a perfect start when he pounced on Dan Sarginson's spill to dot down for a try, but Salford responded with a dazzling 20 minute spell to take charge and leave the Airlie Birds chasing the game from then on.

Ian Watson's side surged into position on the back of Gareth Ellis' error for Tonga international Lolohea to loop a beautiful cut-out ball to an unmarked Sio to score.

Lolohea, who played at Headingley for former club Leeds, added a quick-fire double, bludgeoning through after Salford's ball movement worked over the Hull middle unit and then chasing Sio's diagonal kick from the right to touch down.

Williams crossed after a glorious Evalds tip-on pass, with the platform set by a bell-ringing tackle on Hull's Mahe Fonua from Josh Johnson.

The last score of the half came from Hull and was the result of another error as Evalds dropping Marc Sneyd's bomb and Manu Ma'u rumbled across the line.

Hull continued to press Salford after the break but were opened up when Chris Atkin intercepted an errant Kelly pass and went the length of the field to score.

Shaul finished off Carlos Tuimavave's line-break as Hull roared back almost immediately but the cushion was re-established when Yates snapped up Lolohea's chip-kick ahead of a ponderous Hull defence.

The points were sealed when Atkin rolled a deft grubber in for Williams to touch down, and it seemed Hull's fight had gone when further Yates, Welham and Evalds tries exposed further holes in their defensive unit.

Salford head coach Ian Watson: "Tui is a superstar. He came over with a lot of pressure on him to control the Leeds side and it probably got on top of him.

"We tried to take that responsibility away from him and let him do what he does best.

"If we give him a platform to perform, he can do that to any team."

Hull FC interim head coach Andy Last: "It was a real kick in the guts. I'm bitterly disappointed with the performance.

"We just didn't transfer anything from how we've trained into the game and that's a concern for me as coach. It couldn't have been any worse.

"We have to show more resolve when it gets tough. We didn't show pride in our defensive line which is very disappointing."
