Joel Tomkins & Michael McIlorum: Catalans Dragons pair banned for eight and six games respectively

Catalans Dragons forwards Joel Tomkins and Michael McIlorum have received eight and six game bans respectively for offences in their side's Super League play-off win over Leeds.

Tomkins, 33, was found guilty of 'inappropriate contact' on the backside of Leeds full-back Richie Myler.

McIlorum's six-game ban came from two separate incidents in the match.

He was banned for two games for a high tackle on Brad Dwyer and four more for trying to pick him up while injured.

It is unclear whether either player, who were each also fined £500, will appeal the sanctions.

Both players will miss the Super League play-off semi-final against St Helens on Friday and the Grand Final a week later if Dragons are successful, as well as the first part of the 2021 season.

Former England forward Tomkins' offence was judged to be Grade F - the most serious - and the eight-game ban for 'other contrary behaviour' was the minimum sentence that could be imposed for such an offence.

Ireland hooker McIlorum, 32, challenged the severity of the grading of his high tackle on Dwyer, which had initially seen him banned for one game.

But the tribunal upheld the Grade B charge and increased the ban to two matches and imposed his £500 fine.

However the panel did reduce the severity of his second charge of 'other contrary behaviour' for picking up Dwyer who lay down injured after his high tackle from Grade F to Grade D as they imposed a further four-game suspension.
