Warrington reached the Challenge Cup semi-finals after taking advantage of first-half errors from Catalans Dragons at Emerald Headingley.

Daryl Clark scored twice, finishing off a Toby King break and then taking a Chris Hill pass after the Dragons were split open by Warrington's forwards.

Catalans threw plenty at Warrington in the second half but saw the deficit stretched out by Gareth Widdop's boot.

They eventually got reward through Mike McMeeken's try, but Wire held out.

Steve Price's final season in charge at Warrington remains on course for a shot at silverware, even although his side had to cope with the loss of Stefan Ratchford in the warm-up which meant a return for Blake Austin in the halves.

King's break surged through to tee up Clark's opening try, while a superb offload fed him a second after Hill had carved his way toward the line.

While they executed their plays well, and showed real tenacity through the forwards to set themselves a platform in the first period, it was continuous Catalans handling errors which handed possession straight back to the Wolves.

Such errors from Steve McNamara's Dragons undermined their best efforts in attack, and when they started to get it right in the second half there was some superbly stubborn defence to keep them out.

McMeeken's consolation try was the result of some maverick offloading, the kind of off-the-cuff play it took to break down Warrington.

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara:

"It was two tries to one - both their tries were horrible to concede - but apart from that, both teams defended really well," he said.

"At 16-0, we were under pressure but we never crumbled and found a way back into it. We should have posted some points at the back end.

"The effort was outstanding and the togetherness of the group is tremendous. They threw a fair bit at us and to come away conceding only two tries is testament to how tough both teams were tonight.

"In a league game, you can accept it but the stakes are so high in the Challenge Cup, that's the over-riding feeling, one of disappointment."

Warrington head coach Steve Price:

"It was unfortunate losing Stef warming up. It just flared up today. He was keen to play but he couldn't get that push-off so we made the call.

"Nothing changed for us, Austin came straight in and I thought did a really good job for us. All 17 guys contributed.

"Defensively I thought we were outstanding. We laid a really good platform in that first 25 minutes.

"The momentum was always going to change but we showed a lot of determination and resilience to keep turning a quality team away. It was really pleasing. It was a good hard-nosed display."
