In-form Warrington scored 10 tries to thump struggling Salford, who were reduced to 11 players at one stage after two second-half sin-bins.

Toby King, Jake Mamo and Gareth Widdop scored doubles, while Stef Ratchford, Danny Walker, Chris Hill and Ben Currie also crossed in a dominant display.

Salford had fought back slightly from 18-0 down to trail 26-12 at the break.

But Morgan Escare and Darcy Lussick were in the bin for a costly 15 minutes and Warrington took full advantage.

Steve Price's side have made a habit of scoring tries this season and are by far and away the top scorers in the division with 264 in eight games after Thursday's thrashing.

Their halves pairing of Widdop and Blake Austin were hugely influential, with the former creating with soft hands a threatening running game to add to the tries, while the latter continually took on the line to create space.

King also celebrated a new four-year deal with his double.

This will take them into next week's Challenge Cup semi-final against Castleford with confidence, and continue Price's hopes of finishing his spell at the club with silverware.

For Salford and Richard Marshall it is another example of a game where they have been competitive in phases but come off worse on the scoreboard and failed to stay in the grind.

They lost Harvey Livett to a leg problem, adding to a growing injury list which already includes half-back Kevin Brown, versatile Danny Addy and centre Matt Costello.

The one bright spot was North Shields-born prop Sam Luckley making his debut in Super League.

Salford head coach Richard Marshall:

"We were way off. Warrington were white hot but we were stone cold.

"We managed to get ourselves a foothold after a slow start but Warrington were very clinical in their attack. We are busted mentally and physically.

"As a group we have got to do some soul searching and look at the reasons why we are underperforming. We are learning some tough lessons at the moment.

"We have been competing really well recently but we didn't compete tonight. The game is difficult enough without things like two sin-binnings. We need to put some performances in and win some rugby games."

Warrington head coach Steve Price:

"I thought the intent we showed at the start and how we played with the ball was really clinical. The boys were really ruthless in that second half.

"It's a credit to the playing group that we delivered till the end. I thought Gareth Widdop was outstanding tonight and Stef Ratchford at the back too. Everyone contributed to a really solid performance."

On Toby King's contract:

"It's great news for the club. He's one of our own and he's come through our system. He showed his maturity with that performance and the way he went about his work. As a club and as a playing group we are really pleased he's staying."
