Catalans Dragons ran in eight tries as they bolstered their position at the top of Super League by beating Huddersfield Giants.

Catalans stormed the first half, with Benjamin Jullien, Mike McMeeken and Samisoni Langi all touching down.

Ashton Golding responded early in the second half but Ben Garcia and Arthur Mourgue hit back as Catalans rallied.

Sam Tomkins and James Maloney put the visitors out of sight before Jake Wardle's late score for the hosts.

Catalans stay top of the table following the win, with the table calculated this season on a points-per-game basis, while Huddersfield are third from bottom after an eighth loss this term.

The Giants came into the match off the back of losing the talismanic Aidan Sezer to an injury picked up in the Combined Nations All Stars' win against England, which could cut short his stay with the club.

A comfortable Catalans performance was made better after the break when Tomkins scored his 1,000th Super League point with his try.

Maloney's kicking was matched with a try of his own as he became the seventh individual try-scorer as the Dragons swept aside the hosts.

Ian Watson handed a Super League debut to Will Pryce, son of England and Great Britain stand-off Leon, in the fixture and he made an impact late on as he released Wardle to touch down.

Catalans' fine showing was partly overshadowed by the three sin bins they picked up as Jason Baitieri, Josh Drinkwater and Gil Dudson all saw yellow in the second half.

Huddersfield Giants head coach Ian Watson:

"I thought Will [Pryce] was really good. He came on and was chattering away, he was being Will. He just went out there to play rugby.

"We wanted him to get his hands on the ball and be a threat and he did that. I just wish we could have got a result and made it a memorable debut, but I'm sure he'll have many more appearances.

"I am disappointed with the result, but there were some individuals who stood up and played big minutes.

"If you look at our spine, it's decimated, and we've got to find a way to get a bit of continuity in that spine and go forward with it."

Catalans Dragons boss Steve McNamara:

"I'm clearly not happy with having players in the sin bin, we need to have a look at that.

"I don't think we have a discipline issue. We got warned and didn't heed the warnings, so it was a little bit of stupidity.

"I don't think we have an issue long term, but tonight we put ourselves under pressure after some stupid decisions on the back of being warned.

"I was a little bit critical the last two weeks because I didn't think we had an edge and we challenged the group to get back to something like normal. I thought we were back to normal in defence and we scored some nice tries."
