Salford Red Devils have won two of their 11 Super League matches this year

Salford's next two Super League games against Wakefield and Hull FC have been postponed after two players tested positive for Covid-19.

The Red Devils had been set to host Trinity on Thursday before travelling to Hull on Monday.

Two other members of staff have also tested positive whilst six players are having to isolate as close contacts.

The two postponements bring the number of games called off in Super League this season to nine.

Castleford's match against St Helens, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, was cancelled on Monday and Saints awarded the win after Tigers were unable to name a 17-man squad.

The Rugby Football League said "an unusual range of circumstances" left Cas unable to name their squad but the threshold for a Covid-19 postponement had not been met.

In order for a fixture to be rearranged, a club needs to have seven senior players unavailable as a direct result of positive tests or as close contacts, as is the case for Salford.

That is the only one of the postponed games to be cancelled and three of the other six have already been given new dates.

It was decided that league positions this season will be determined by points percentage in the event not all fixtures are completed, as was the case last season.

However, a club must play at least 18 matches to qualify for the top-six play-offs.
