Rampant Hull ruined Marc Sneyd's return to the KC Stadium as they dished out a Super League thrashing to Salford.

Cam Scott scored two of the Black and Whites' four first-half tries and Jordan Lane then matched him with a second-half double.

Darnell McIntosh, Joe Lovadua, Jake Connor, Josh Reynolds and Chris Satae all crossed too as Hull racked up Super League's highest score of the season.

All Salford could offer were two tries for Tim Lafai and one for Ken Sio.

Former Hull half-back Sneyd was making his first return to the KC Stadium following his move back to Salford in November after seven years' prolific Hull service.

But it all started to go wrong with three tries in the space of 10 minutes, the first two down the right for winger McIntosh and centre Scott, who quickly claimed a second.

Lafai got Salford on the scoreboard at least when Sneyd floated a beautiful cross-field kick, and the centre got on the end of it to score.

Sneyd added the extras to briefly give his side hope, but second-row forward Lovadua added a fourth first-half try - and, although Scott went off with an ankle strain, Hull simply carried on where they had left off after the break.

And the afternoon got worse for Sneyd when he was sin-binned for a late challenge on Hull's star man, full-back Connor, and the hosts took full advantage to rack up 16 unanswered points while the visitors were down to 12 men.

Although Sio chipped in with his sixth try of the season, it was a rude awakening for Paul Rowley's Salford, who had begun the season impressively with wins over Castleford and Toulouse - one of only four sides to win both their first two matches.

Both sides now have an eight-day turnaround before Salford go to Huddersfield and Hull visit Castleford on Sunday, 6 March.

Hull coach Brett Hodgson:

"At times Jake Connor is undefendable. He was exceptional, phenomenal. We're obviously a pretty decent team with him in it but Ben McNamara and Josh Reynolds were outstanding as well.

"And Cameron Scott was excellent. It was probably his best 40 minutes for us. A number of players stood up. Our pack was immense.

"The response from last week was much better than the responses we had last year so that shows some progression."

Salford coach Paul Rowley:

"We were really poor. We had a disrupted start when James Greenwood pulled his groin at the end of the warm-up and it didn't get any better.

"We lost Dan Sarginson for two minutes after a miscommunication from the bench which left us with six subs after two minutes, which put us on the back foot and meant our middles doing a huge stint.

"Even if that was smooth, I don't think we would have won, we were way off. I don't think there was a lack of desire or effort but we got spooked by a team who completed really high.

"I'm disappointed because we came here with massive belief. I guess it was our first test of a grind against a team that was highly motivated. We need to use this as a kick up the backside, a realism check."
