Salford Red Devils have signed half-back Joe Mellor on a two-year deal from fellow Super League side Leigh Leopards.

The 33-year-old has joined having made 71 appearances for the Leopards in his three seasons with the club.

During his time with Leigh, he helped them win promotion to Super League as well as last season's Challenge Cup.

"I am really happy to join Salford for the next two years and I am excited to get started," he told the club website.

Having previously played for Wigan, Mellor went on to join Widnes Vikings, for whom he scored 66 tries in 178 appearances.

"He is a very established player who has had a consistently positive influence on any team he represents," head coach Paul Rowley added.

"He is highly competitive, he holds himself to high standards and will add greatly to an already excellent group of lads at Salford."
