Former Castleford, Huddersfield and Warrington head coach Darryl van de Velde has died at the age of 72, in his native Australia.
Van de Velde took Castleford to the 1992 Challenge Cup final during his time at Wheldon Road.
He also delivered the coup of signing Australia and Queensland great Alfie Langer for Warrington, during his five years in charge at Wilderspool.
Prior to coaching, he was a player in the Brisbane competition.
Having played at Easts Tigers, Souths Logan and Redcliffe, he would later coach the latter to two Queensland Rugby League premierships.
After his time in England, Van de Velde also served on the QRL board and spent time with the South Queensland Crushers.
"Darryl achieved many great things and was highly respected within the rugby league community," QRL chairman Bruce Hatcher said.
"It can be a tough game at the best of times, so to be able to play, coach and serve as an administrator at such a high level over many years is a testament to his character and love for the game."
Castleford, Huddersfield and Warrington have also expressed their condolences on social media, with the Wire stating they were "deeply saddened" by his passing.
