Frawley joins Giants as Murchie ends contract early

Matt Frawley joins Huddersfield Giants on loan from Leeds Rhinos

Huddersfield Giants have signed Matt Frawley on a month-long loan deal from Leeds Rhinos, with forward Jack Murchie returning to Australia.

Murchie has been released from the remainder of his contract with the Super League club, which frees up an overseas player slot in the Giants roster.

And half-back Frawley has filled it, coming in as cover for the injured Adam Clune, who is facing several weeks out with a hamstring injury sustained against Wigan Warriors.

Huddersfield have also announced that Zac Woolford has penned a new two-year deal, keeping the hooker at the club until the end of 2027.

Murchie joined the Giants ahead of the 2024 season and played a total of 17 games, scoring three tries.

"We're sympathetic to the reasons why Jack wants to go home and we've worked together to ensure that happens. We wish him the very best of luck," director of rugby Andy Kelly told the club website.

Frawley, who played for the club in 2019, comes into contention for the weekend's Super League game against Warrington Wolves on Saturday.

Kelly added: "It's an important signing for us, we've started to have some momentum with the way we're playing and he is a natural controller of the game, he gives us the experience and coverage."

Woolford joined the Giants in September from Canberra Raiders and has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season.

"He's a crafty hooker that we rely on a lot for his skill and his service. We're really happy to have him on board," head coach Luke Robinson said.
