Hull KR coach Willie Peters has said prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and hooker Michael McIlorum face spells on the sidelines after playing injured in Saturday's Challenge Cup final win over Warrington.

The veteran duo both started at Wembley but were withdrawn inside the opening 30 minutes.

Waerea-Hargreaves, 36, is now set to miss four weeks with a calf injury and 37-year-old McIlorum, who was making a first appearance since April because of a biceps issue, is expected to miss three weeks.

"Jared went into the game and he shouldn't have played and Mickey Mac shouldn't have played," Peters told BBC Radio Humberside.

"It was courageous what those guys did. There was risk involved and we knew that but the players that they are, we knew there was a good chance they'd get through.

"We had to make the call and it was up to him (McIlorum) whether he wanted to take the risk of potentially rupturing it again. The game being a Cup final and his last one, he played and got through it. Now we need to make sure he heals."

Hull KR, who have a two-point lead at the top of Super League, host Catalans Dragons on Friday, 13 June.
