    England 4-4 Australia

    Jodie Cunningham
England women's captain on BBC One

Morgan Knowles drove the line speed incredibly well. That is what we wanted out of this England side. Don't hand over an Ashes series to Australia. Get out and put pressure on them.

  2. Kick-offpublished at 15:39 GMT 1 November

    England 4-4 Australia

    We are back under way.

Can England keep up their levels, or will Australia go through the gears?

  3. Postpublished at 15:38 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

A small thing, but we have an in-play announcer, buzzer and music between plays today which we didn't have at Wembley last week.

It is actively helping the atmosphere - as is a fiercely partisan and engaged crowd.

  4. 'We have shown we can rattle the Aussies'published at 15:36 GMT 1 November

    Kevin Brown
Former England international on BBC One

We do need to be brave, but we need to be brave and pull the trigger. We have shown we can rattle the Aussies. Morgan Smithies and Morgan Knowles have been fantastic.

If England allows Australia to dictate terms, then they're the best players in the world and they will dominate.

  5. 'We needed some disruption'published at 15:35 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

    Sam Burgess
Former England captain on BBC One

We needed some disruption. We saw two penalties, couple of guys in the sin bin and it took the flow of the game away from the Aussies. It suited us a little bit.

The worry is if Australia get down and take points straight away then that might take some confidence away.

  6. 'This is a Test match'published at 15:34 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

    Jodie Cunningham
England women's captain on BBC One

This is a Test match. This is what we have been waiting for. Five minutes into the game you could see a difference in England.

  7. The Australian magician who swapped union for leaguepublished at 15:33 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

    Matt Newsum
    Commentator on BBC One

There might have been more fanfare about the Test debut of Australia's dual-code international winger Mark Nawaqanitawase had it not been such an historic occasion anyway with the revival of the Rugby League Ashes.

When he stepped out at Wembley, the 25-year-old - born in Sydney's inner-west - became the first union-to-league switcher to feature for the Kangaroos since Scott Gourley in 1991.

The lack of spotlight on Nawaqanitawase after last Saturday's opening Test success in London might well work in Australia's favour.

England know now all about the menace of Reece Walsh, of Cameron Munster, of Harry Grant.

Yet the Kangaroos kept their powder dry to an extent with Nawaqanitawase, as he largely remained a supporting cast member rather than a leading light.

England were 8-0 down at this stage last week after delivering the sort of performance that was reminiscent of their display in their World Cup semi-final defeat to Samoa.

Shaun Wane promised that his England side would challenge Australia "in more areas" and so far they have not disappointed despite the absence of any tries.

Wane will also be pleased that the likes of Kallum Watkins, Harry Smith and debutant AJ Brimson have gone well so far after they were among the players brought into his starting 13.

  9. 'England playing some good footy'published at 15:31 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

    Australia

Australia's Cameron Munster, speaking to BBC One: "They played to the conditions better than us. We're doing the easy stuff at the moment, taking shortcuts. We know what England are like, they get you down in the trenches and they're playing some really good footy."

  10. 'Stick with our plan'published at 15:30 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

    England

England's Kai Pearce-Paul, speaking to BBC One: "I think that is what we lacked last week. A close game right now, but we're made up with ourselves. We have got to keep going and stick with our plan - it seems to be working."

Australia have made double the number of incomplete sets to England.

England made double the number of tackle busts to Australia.

England have made three errors to Australia's nine, and 90 carries to the tourists' 74.

The only thing England have done wrong in the first half is fail to score a try.

  12. 'Australia don't panic'published at 15:26 GMT 1 November

    HT: England 4-4 Australia

    James Graham
Former England forward on BBC One

Australia don't panic defensively. Even when England have them on the edges that next line of defence in Reece Walsh has been there.

  13. Half-timepublished at 15:24 GMT 1 November

    England 4-4 Australia

An engrossing first 40 minutes, and we are all square.

That is the very least England deserve. Such an improved performance.

  14. PENALTY - England 4-4 Australiapublished at 15:23 GMT 1 November

    Harry Smith (40 mins)

Not an easy kick for Harry Smith, at an angle to the left amid wind and rain in Liverpool.

But he slots it, and England are level.

What a chase from Reece Walsh. The competitor, he goes just in case, he has the speed and he times his run to perfection.

Cameron Munster with a high kick, and Reece Walsh brilliantly chases it down.

He got ahead of the England defender and parried the ball out of his hands - it just bounces forwards.

But that is a reminder of the excellence Australia possess.
