Wales legend Gareth Edwards backs England to win Grand Slam

Legendary Wales scrum-half Gareth Edwards believes England can win the Grand Slam.

England maintained their 100% Six Nations record with an impressive 23-13 win over France on Saturday.

They are at home to Italy in their next match and conclude their campaign away to Wales.

Edwards told BBC Radio 5 live: "They're worth a shout - Manu Tuilagi is back in form and Chris Robshaw is leading by example."

The 65-year-old praised coach Stuart Lancaster for getting the most out of a team that he reckoned did not contain "any real stars".

"He's [Lancaster] brought the guys down to earth," Edwards added.

"They've lived through difficult truths in the last couple of years because they were not as good as people expected them to be.

"He's now brought stability to a young team that believes in themselves. They are exceptionally talented players but a team without any real stars, so to speak."

However, Edwards is adamant Wales will provide stiff opposition during what might be the title decider on Saturday, 16 March at the Millennium Stadium.

"After two away wins against formidable opposition, Wales are back in a position where they can compete," continued the former Wales and Lions star.

"Some are getting excited about England coming to Cardiff to try to win the Grand Slam. Wales will be hoping that they still have everything to play for in the championship."
