Harvey Biljon's Jersey appointment 'a no-brainer' - Ian Davies

Cornish Pirates head coach Ian Davies has described Harvey Biljon's appointment at Jersey as a "no-brainer" for the Channel Islands club.

The former Wasps scrum-half worked with Davies at the Pirates for the last four-and-a-half years.

"He's done a sterling job and he's ambitious so it's no surprise he applied," he told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"It's a no-brainer for Jersey. He's a good backs coach who's been in the Championship for nearly five years."

Biljon replaces Ben Harvey, who quit as Jersey's director of rugby last month with the club second from bottom of the table.

"His eye for detail in terms of analysis is good," said Davies. "And the way he can unlock defences is something he's very keen to experiment with.

"He has a lot of experience and is probably the best scrum-half coach around.

"We've been together for five years at the Pirates, so it's no surprise he applied for and got the Jersey job. It's a chance to be a head coach."

Davies said the Pirates would look to replace Biljon at the Mennaye Field, although no timescale had been put on the process as yet.

"We're going to look to get applications in and the best man will get the job - how long that process will take but I'm sure its an attractive proposition," he added.

"We're a top-six side in the Championship and it's a chance for someone to prove themselves."
