Fiji international Sam Matavesi has signed a new one-year deal to keep him at Plymouth Albion next season.

The 22-year-old flanker has featured in six league games this season, and has also been on loan at Redruth.

"He has played well this season, but we are in the process of converting Sam into a hooker," said Albion head coach James Shanahan.

"Sam is very keen to convert to hooker and that is where we will be using him next season."

He added: "He will obviously be able to cover back row, but he went well when he had 50 minutes at hooker when he played for the South West Barbarians against the Navy recently.

"Sam could well get some game time at hooker before the end of the season and it is good for him and Plymouth Albion that he will be with us next season."

Matavesi is in his fourth campaign at Albion after joining the club from Camborne.
