Young Wales talent excites Alex Cuthbert for South Africa tour

Alex Cuthbert described Wales' young players as "electric" ahead of the tour to South Africa.

The Wales squad includes four uncapped players who Cuthbert says could prove to be a handful for the Springboks in the two-Test series.

Cardiff Blues wing Cuthbert said: "We have that youth. The boys are not scared, they are just keen and hungry to get out there and play.

"The likes of Matthew Morgan and Jordan Williams are electric."

Cuthbert said he doubts any team could cope with the uncapped fly-half Morgan and wing Williams if they are given any space.

"With South Africa's old heads in certain situations they can win you games, because Test rugby is so close and experience really does count," Cuthbert said.

"I guess it could work in their favour, but having a young squad could work in our favour as well."

Wales have beaten the Springboks just once in 27 attempts, in Cardiff in 1999, and have never won on South African soil.

But while the 24-times capped Cuthbert understands that others expect that trend to continue, the players are quietly confident ahead of the warm-up match against Eastern Province Kings on 10 June and two Tests against the Springboks on 14 and 21 June.

"Our squad has been together for three to four years, and the confidence we have in each other is really high," he said.

"We just need a bit more consistency and the bit of luck that every Test team needs."
