Philip Doyle to stand down as Irish women's team coach

Philip Doyle has announced he will quit as coach of Ireland's women's team after the World Cup in August.

Doyle's second spell in charge started in 2010 when he succeeded Kevin West and he guided Ireland to their first Six Nations Grand Slam in 2013.

On Tuesday, Doyle named an 26-strong squad for the World Cup which is being held in France.

Ireland's first Pool B match is against the USA on 1 August, followed by games against New Zealand and Kazakhstan.

Doyle said he felt it was a natural time for a change of coach.

"It is the end of the World Cup cycle and I am looking forward to somebody else coming in and possibly bringing it to a new level," he said.
