Dan Biggar is relishing the prospect of a first Wales start alongside Ospreys half-back partner Rhys Webb against Australia.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has picked the "form" Ospreys pair ahead of Rhys Priestland and Mike Phillips.

Biggar, 25, hopes he and Webb, 25, can replicate their excellent regional form against the Wallabies.

"Playing with Webby will be great. He's been superb this year and hopefully he can carry on that form," said Biggar.

Biggar and Webb were international half-back partners for 13 minutes when Wales beat the Barbarians 30-21 in June 2012, with Webb a second half replacement for Lloyd Williams.

But Saturday's clash against the Wallabies will be the first time the Ospreys duo have started together for Wales.

"We know each other's games well enough. We've played together for a long time," said Biggar.

"Although it will be a different colour shirt on Saturday, we'll be trying to replicate what we've been doing over the last few weeks."

Biggar and Webb have been instrumental to the Ospreys' fine start to the season, which has seen them rise to the top of the Pro12 with seven wins from their first seven matches.

Gatland has chosen the Ospreys double act ahead of Priestland and Phillips, who have been dropped to the bench.

"It's a step up, of course it is," said Biggar.

"We'll be judged on what happens on Saturday and the next three weeks.

"We want to rise to that challenge and prove we can do it."

Wales are desperate for victory against Australia, having failed to beat a southern hemisphere team since their triumph over the Wallabies in 2008.

Gatland's side have lost their last nine Tests against the Australians, with five of those defeats by four points or fewer.

Biggar was a part of the Welsh side which was agonisingly denied a first ever away Test win against South Africa in June.

The fly-half was sin-binned during the dramatic 31-30 defeat in the second Test in Nelspruit, and he is eager to ease the pain of that near miss with victory against the Wallabies.

"We're hugely disappointed with how the game unfolded in the second Test, but it's a new campaign and all the players are extremely excited," said Biggar.

"It's about trying to get that win. We're physically ready. It's just about being as ready as possible come Saturday.

"I'm sure it'll be a great occasion. It's a great challenge."
