Cornish Pirates are only seven points off the bottom of the Championship

Cornish Pirates director of rugby Ian Davies hit out at a "lacklustre" display by his team after they were beaten 28-13 at home to Nottingham.

Having trailed 10-6 at the interval, they drew level at 13-13 with Kieran Goss' converted try, but Brent Wilson scored twice to seal Nottingham's win.

"I'm really disappointed, the performance wasn't good enough," Davies told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"You get paid to perform on the weekend and we didn't do that."

The defeat left Pirates 10th in the 12-team Championship with only two wins from six games.

They face games with fourth-placed Rotherham and Bedford, who are currently ninth, in the next two weeks.

"To a man, if I was a Premiership club with a big chequebook, I'd be signing everyone from Nottingham and no-one from the Pirates."

"I don't think there was a single facet of play that we can put our hands up and say 'we outplayed Nottingham there'," said Davies.

"I thank to a man they outplayed us and got away with a bonus point win."

He added: "It was a strong team we had out, but we were well beaten. When we look at the DVD we'll know exactly why it went wrong, but I can't think of any passages in the game where I felt we were on top.

"To a man, if I was a Premiership club with a big chequebook, I'd be signing everyone from Nottingham and no-one from the Pirates."
