Gareth Anscombe will start at fly-half for Cardiff Blues against Treviso in the Pro12 on Friday.

The 23-year-old New Zealander, who is Wales qualified, made his Blues debut at full-back in the 28-13 defeat at Edinburgh last Sunday.

Gareth Davies started at fly-half against Edinburgh while Rhys Patchell is out with a hamstring injury.

"It will be exciting to see how he drives the group," Blues director of rugby Mark Hammett said.

Anscombe arrived in Cardiff earlier in November after joining on a "long-term deal" from Super Rugby side Chiefs.

Despite representing the "Baby Blacks", Anscombe qualifies for Wales through his mother, who is from Cardiff.

Anscombe played most of his rugby with the Chiefs as a full-back, helping the New Zealand side win the Super Rugby title in 2013.
