Forwards coach Chris Gibbes says Ospreys missed an opportunity to steal a march on their leading Pro12 rivals by losing to Scarlets.
Ospreys beat Scarlets a week earlier, but lost 22-10 in Llanelli on Saturday only to remain top of the table as their biggest rivals lost over the weekend.
Munster lost at Connacht and Edinburgh beat Glasgow.
"We look at it as a missed opportunity," said Gibbes.
"We really wanted to beat the Scarlets. We thought we played poorly last week and we thought we had a lot more to offer.
"Clearly we didn't quite get that right, but it doesn't make us a bad side."
Wales' lowest-ranked team, Newport Gwent Dragons, travel to Liberty Stadium on Sunday 11 January.
They will be hoping to bounce back from the disappointment of Cardiff Blues taking revenge on them for a Boxing Day defeat.
The Dragons lie nine places below Ospreys in the table, but Gibbes says his side's display against Scarlets means they cannot be automatically seen as favourites against Lyn Jones' side.
Gibbes said: "We need to have a real, good, hard look at ourselves, to go back to work Tuesday and try and get ready for what will be another fierce derby against the Dragons.
"Looking at that game [against Scarlets], we may not be [favourites]."
