Worcester Warriors backs coach Shane Howarth has left Sixways after 18 months on Dean Ryan's backroom staff.

The former New Zealand and Wales full-back, 46, moved from Wasps to become one of Ryan's first appointments when he took charge in June 2013.

"We would like to thank Shane for his contribution in developing our back play during these transitional years," said director of rugby Ryan.

"He has played an integral part of what we are building here at Worcester."

Shane Howarth's colourful international career

Howarth, who won four caps for New Zealand in 1994, made big headlines in the late 1990s. Having swapped codes to play rugby league with North Queensland Cowboys, the former All Black then returned to union and was allowed to represent Wales, winning 19 caps, before it emerged that he had no Welsh qualification - and was promptly banned.

Howarth said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Worcester and will look back upon it with fond memories."

The Warriors have given new contracts, of unspecified length, to five of their fringe first-team players, stand-off Tiff Eden, 20, lock Christian Scotland-Williamson, 21, loose-head prop Val Rapava Ruskin, 22, fellow prop Mike Daniels, 22, and hooker Ben Sowrey, 23.

Meanwhile, former Warriors full-back Errie Claassens has called time on his 11-year professional rugby career at the age of 33 because of injury.

After signing from London Welsh in 2011, he spent two years in the Premiership with the Warriors before moving to Bristol in 2013, then signing for London Scottish last summer.
