Number eight Jade Konkel crashed over the line to score Scotland's first try of the Women's Six Nations

Scotland scored their first try of the Women's Six Nations but still slumped to defeat to Italy at Broadwood.

A Maria Magatti hat-trick and tries from Veronica Schiavon and Michela Sillari consigned the hosts to their third loss of the Championship.

Jade Konkel crossed late on for the Scots, adding to a Nuala Deans penalty.

But Magatti touched down for the third time to ensure Scotland's women would not avenge the defeat suffered by their male counterparts a day earlier.

The winger bagged her first by crossing under the posts after a powerful driving maul from her pack set-up field position in the home 22, with Schiavon converting to notch the first two of her eventual 11-point haul.

Sillari was next to score, finishing off a sweeping first-phase move in the corner, Schiavon again adding the extras, before Nuala Deans got Scotland off the mark with a penalty.

Magatti was over the whitewash again before half-time, and though Schiavon missed the conversion, the hosts could not capitalise on a period of pressure near the Italian line.

Flavia Severin and Michele Este were both sin-binned after the break with Scotland trailing by 16 points, but once more, the winless home side failed to press home their advantage.

With Italy restored to their full compliment, Schiavon converted her own try, and though Konkel salvaged some pride for the Scots, Magatti completed her treble with an unconverted score that left Jules Maxton's team facing yet another heavy loss.
