Scarlets: Scott Williams impresses coach Wayne Pivac

Scott Williams scored a winning try for Wales against England at Twickenham in 2012.

Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac praised an "exceptional" display by Scott Williams in the 23-13 Pro12 win over Leinster.

The win lifted Scarlets to seventh in the table - three points behind sixth-placed Connacht.

Centre Williams, 24, was playing his first game since January, despite being part of Wales' Six Nations squad.

"He made a lot of clean breaks, did a lot of work in defence and played the full 80 minutes and did very well for us," said Pivac.

"Scotty who hasn't played a lot of rugby had an exceptional game.

"We know what Scotty can do in attack, it's just a case of him bending over and knocking guys over on defence on a regular basis.

"He made good strides in terms of an 80 minute performance for us an hopefully with Wales going forward hopefully he'll get some game time shortly."

The 27-times capped Williams has not featured in any of Wales' three Six Nations outing so far this season, even as a replacement.

But he was prominent in attack as Scarlets revived their European qualification challenge and maintained their unbeaten home record.

"With Leinster where they are on the table it was a big match for us," said Pivac.

"We knew they would be coming here for the points and with the Ospreys getting a win earlier in the day there was a lot riding on that game for everyone.

"So for us to come through and finish strongly was pleasing because we've been in winning positions a few times this year and haven't quite capitalised."
