Ignacio Mieres has returned to his native Argentina to continue his career

Worcester Warriors have trimmed their playing staff by allowing surplus backs Ignacio Mieres and James Stephenson to leave after two years with the club.

Argentine stand-off Mieres, 28, came in from Exeter Chiefs as Andy Goode's replacement in the summer of 2013.

But, after being part of the team relegated from the Premiership, he lost his place as first-choice number 10 following the arrival of Ryan Lamb.

Winger Stephenson, 25, was also signed in the summer of 2013 from Bedford.

But he seldom got an opportunity in Worcester's team for league games, scoring two tries in his 17 appearances.

Mieres amassed 184 points in 38 matches for the Warriors. But he was behind both Lamb and Ryan Mills in the pecking order when last season ended, as well as youngster Tiff Eden, who was at 10 when Worcester won the British and Irish Cup at Doncaster on Easter Monday.

One of four Argentines at the club when he first signed, after the exit earlier this summer of loose forward Leonardo Senatore and hooker Gus Creevy, Warriors have none of their Latin American quartet left.

Mieres, one of nine of last term's first-team squad to leave this summer, is understood to be back home looking for a club in his native Argentina.
