Ireland wing Andrew Trimble will be fit for the World Cup after a "positive" second scan on his injured foot.

Coach Joe Schmidt said he expected the Ulster player to resume training in 10 days and be available for the Wales game in Dublin on 29 August.

He reported a "positive prognosis" from the scan, which revealed bruising on the foot and toes.

Trimble sustained the injury in Saturday's win over Wales, and a first scan had been inconclusive.

He will not be involved in Ireland's second World Cup warm-up game at home to Scotland on Saturday.

Last weekend's match in Cardiff was Trimble's first game since last October after toe surgery, and he was in impressive form before having to be replaced in the first half.

The 30-year-old was Ireland's player of the year in 2014 but missed all of this year's Six Nations because of his injury.

Flanker Jack Conan makes his Test debut for Ireland against the Scots with Sean O'Brien captaining the side from number eight.
