Tommy Bowe receives treatment after sustaining the knee injury
Ulster wing Tommy Bowe is to have surgery on Monday on the knee injury he sustained in Ireland's World Cup quarter-final defeat by Argentina.
The 31-year-old is set to be ruled out for around two months, which would see him miss much of Ulster's European Champions Cup campaign.
"When the surgeon has a look we should have a better picture of how long he is likely to be out for," explained Ulster Head Coach Neil Doak.
"But we don't think it will be weeks."
"It's unfortunate for Tommy but we wish him a speedy recovery and want him back out on the pitch as quickly as possible."
Bowe was forced off the field early in the last eight game with the Pumas and underwent two scans on the injury last week.
Results have indicated some cartilage damage, but there may also be other issues for the surgeon to deal with.
