Six Nations: Ireland U20 24-35 Wales U20

Wales Under-20s made a winning start to their Six Nations campaign with victory over Ireland at Donnybrook.

Dafydd Hughes, Adam Beard, Daniel Jones and Harri Millard were Wales' try-scorers in an entertaining game.

Eight uncapped players started for Wales while Ireland's inexperienced side had just three players from last year's campaign.

Wales have now won five of their last six games against Ireland at Under-20 level.

Ireland made the brighter start with Johnny McPhillips slotting over a penalty before Cillian Gallagher crossed for the first try.

Daniel Jones' penalty secured Wales' first points before converting Hughes' try to give Wales the lead.

McPhillips and Jones exchanged penalties before a third penalty from the Irish fly-half edged Ireland in front.

But the visitors responded and a Beard try at the end of the first half was converted by Jones to give Wales a 20-14 interval lead.

Fly-half Jones extended Wales' lead in the opening minute of the second half with an intercepted try but he failed with the conversion.

Kelvin Brown scored a second try for Ireland, who had Peter Claffey yellow carded and were punished further by a Jones penalty.

Cardiff Blues' Millard ran in for Wales fourth try with Jones once again adding the extras although they were reduced to 14 men after try-scorer Beard was yellow carded.

Ireland kept battling until the end but Shane Daly's late try proved to be a consolation.
