Centre Jamie Roberts says there has been plenty of soul searching following Wales' Six Nations defeat against England.

Wales' title hopes were ended in the 25-21 loss to England.

Warren Gatland's side will still finish second if they defeat Italy on Saturday and Roberts hopes they can make amends at Principality Stadium.

"It's a tough one to take and it's important we review and we learn from it," he said.

"You learn more from disappointment than you do from winning.

"We take the loss on the chin and face the music, roll our sleeves up and play well this week. We're in a sport where we can rectify things."

The Harlequins centre is still baffled over Wales' nightmare first half showing at Twickenham, which Gatland said was "unacceptable".

Wales scored three second-half tries to threaten a comeback, but fell just short against Eddie Jones' team.

"A lot of us have been scratching our heads why we didn't turn up first half on Saturday. It's hard to put a finger on it," Roberts added.

"I'm not going to stand hear and make excuses. It's not the nature of what we're about.

"We're not going to point the finger at different things.

"It's just a shame that last quarter of an hour we played some good stuff and we didn't bring that from minute one."

Saturday's opponent Italy are winless in 2016 and were thrashed 58-15 by Ireland in Dublin last weekend.

Roberts wants Wales to finish the tournament on a high, but recognises Italy will want to avoid to mark coach Jacques Brunel's final game in charge with a win.

"It would have been much nicer to be playing to win the tournament, but it's not to be," lamented Roberts.

"We're facing an Italian side that will be determined to turn around their loss last weekend away to Ireland."
