London Irish winger Alex Lewington says belief is still high among the squad despite their perilous position at the foot of the Premiership.

The Exiles are eight points adrift of safety with six games remaining following a 26-16 defeat by Saracens in New Jersey on Saturday.

Lewington, 24, scored his second try in as many games following his return to action from a fractured right thumb.

"There's a lot of winnable games for us still," he told BBC Radio Berkshire.

Irish's run-in begins at home against Gloucester on Sunday, a St Patrick's Day weekend fixture set to be played in front of a strong crowd at the Madejski Stadium.

"We've got Newcastle and Worcester still to play, this weekend's game, plus another two home games, so that's five out of the six remaining matches," Lewington said.

"In our minds, they're all winnable. There's going to be a lot of people out in the general public who already think we're gone.

"But there's a lot of belief around the place and we'll be fighting until the last minute of the season to make sure the club stays up."
