Dragons became the first side to lose to Southern Kings in the Pro14 as the hosts secured a bonus-point victory.

The Welsh Rugby Union-owned region have the second worst league record and collapsed after surrendering a 10-0 lead in South Africa.

Dragons have won just two league matches this season and conceded six tries against a side who came into this match with a -423 points difference.

Dorian Jones scored all of the Dragons points, including a first-half try.

In what has been a difficult season for Dragons as they adjust to new ownership and management from the board room to the training paddock, this result is nonetheless a real low point for a region that has not won a league game since September.

The Kings had previously lost 16 league games before inflicting this embarrassing defeat on Bernard Jackman's side.

Former Southern Kings player Jarryd Sage hoped to prove a point when he returned to face them with his new region.

The centre was one of several Dragons changes, including former South Africa full-back Zane Kirchner switching from centre to 15.

The Dragons also made two changes just prior to kick-off with Dan Babos replacing Sarel Pretorius and James Benjamin in for Ollie Griffiths.

Things started well enough, with Jones kicking an early penalty and then converting his own try after strong work from Lewis Evans.

However, despite another Jones penalty extending Dragons' advantage after Luzuko Vulindlu scored a try converted by Kurt Coleman, the wheels fell off in spectacular fashion.

Masixole Banda crossed just before the break as the hosts went in ahead 14-13 and they dominated Dragons entirely after the interval, scoring four unanswered tries through Vulindlu again, Ruaan Lerm, Anthonie Volmink and Bobby De Wee.

Coleman added 15 points with his boot.

Dragons captain Lewis Evans said: "It was a shame the way we capitulated. That try just before half-time was tough to take but then we just compounded more errors in the second half.

"We couldn't convert possession into points. We had reasonable pressure at times and would go multi-phase but just turned the ball over.

"Credit to the Kings for their attacking play and they dealt with our pressure but there are lessons to be learned and some harsh words to be said. We need to get better."
