Wales centre Jonathan Davies could return for Wales' World Cup semi-final next weekend.

The 31-year old was ruled out of the dramatic 20-19 win over France with a recurrence of a knee injury and was replaced by Ospreys' Owen Watkin.

Davies aggravated the problem he suffered against Fiji and withdrew just 75 minutes before kick-off in Oita.

"Hopefully with some rest and the right rehab, he would be available next week," head coach Warren Gatland said.

Davies had trained all week with heavy strapping on his left leg but was selected on Friday in the starting side before aggravating the problem on Saturday.

Wales also have a doubt over Josh Navidi, who left the France match with what appeared to be a hamstring issue.

"Jonathan was not far away from being right. He just made a decision that was best for the team," Gatland said.

"I was concerned during the week we would go into the game with two midfielders carrying knocks.

"Jonathan pulled out of yesterday's captains run and we assessed him this morning and he was not 100% but he was not far away.

"Hopefully over the next 48 hours or so the plan is to put himself in contention for the semi-final.

"Josh looks like he has done a bit of a hamstring and we don't know how severe that is."
