Wales (14) 23

Fly-half Sam Costelow produced a virtuoso display to help Wales to a first win in England in four years.

The Scarlets-bound 19-year old was imperious all night in attack and defence, scoring 18 points and inspiring his side to new heights.

Costelow sealed the win for Wales with a dramatic drop-goal after England had taken a slender 22-20 lead.

The Tigers teen also excelled defensively, stopping a certain England try in a topsy-turvy second half.

Neither side ever managed to look fully in control on a dramatic evening.

Wales took the lead when Costelow showed his credentials with a fine individual try, as he side-stepped three England players to reach the try line before adding the extras.

England quickly responded and exhibited their power as they scored off the lineout after going for the corner as prop Emmanuel Iyogun drove his way over after the initial maul.

Costelow, currently at Leicester, then again produced a moment of magic to extend the Wales lead to nine points at the interval.

The teenager ran from his own half and evaded two tackles as he powered up the field, finding Ben Carter at the perfect moment to release Bradley Roderick who powered over.

Wales then had to deal with sustained England pressure before Gloucester's George Barton - who had a miserable night with the boot - crossed on his home pitch, before Costelow extended Wales' lead with a cool penalty.

England full-back Freddie Steward was then arguably lucky to only see a yellow card after clattering his opposite number Jacob Beetham in the air chasing a high kick.

Sam Crean's quick thinking produced a third try for England to cut the score to 17-15, but clever work from Gwilym Bradley won another penalty that Costelow coolly dispatched.

Wales could not extend their lead beyond a single score and paid the price with just under 10 minutes remaining when England went ahead with a converted try as Jack Van Poortvliet powered over and fellow replacement Will Haywon-Wood added the extra two points.

However, Gareth Williams' side, who secured their first win of the campaign against France in their previous game, took the lead again when Costelow nailed a difficult looking drop goal to cap a superb night.

England had won away in France and Scotland but lost at home to Ireland in what has been a mixed campaign.
