Winger Sean Maitland has been restored to the Scotland squad for this month's Autumn Nations Cup with scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne also drafted in.

Maitland was dropped for Saturday's Six Nations win over Wales after breaching Covid-19 protocol on Barbarians duty.

Injuries to fly-halves Finn Russell and Adam Hastings during the victory in Llanelli rules them out of the matches against Italy, France and Fiji.

Richie Gray, Rob Harley and Ratu Tagive have returned to Glasgow Warriors.

Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Hidalgo-Clyne is the only addition to head coach Gregor Townsend's original selection at the beginning of October.

The last of the 27-year-old's Scotland caps came two years ago but he was part of the Exeter squad that claimed the European Champions Cup and English Premiership double last month.

Townsend is likely to turn to Duncan Weir at fly-half for the game against Italy with James Lang - who started against Wales and Georgia at inside centre - set to be his back-up as he has played there for Harlequins at times.

Jaco van der Walt of Edinburgh will be eligible for Scotland from November 16 but will have to isolate when he returns from his wedding in South Africa on Sunday.

"It's obviously disappointing to lose two quality players like Finn and Adam, who had both been playing well," said Townsend.

"However, this provides an opportunity to other players to come into the team and lead our attack.

"We welcome Sam into camp after a successful time with Exeter and he will add further competition at scrum-half."
