Dragons maintained their outside chance of Champions Cup qualification with a hard-fought 26-17 win over Glasgow.

Jordan Williams and Matthew Screech scored tries in the final quarter to add to 16 points from Sam Davies.

Scores from Fraser Brown and Rufus MacLean, with a fine solo effort, put Glasgow 17-9 up at half-time.

Warriors then spurned kicks at goal to earn a losing bonus point and now lead the Dragons only on points difference.

The club that finishes fourth in each conference will face a waiting game to see if the Pro14 has eight spots in next season's premier European tournament.

Glasgow have a home game against winless Benetton to finish their season on Saturday 27 March, and remain favourites to take fourth place with a superior points difference of 23, but Dragons are still in contention as they host Edinburgh the following day.

Warriors were left ruing their decision to go for tries in the final five minutes rather than take several easy penalty chances to get within seven points.

Dragons lost full-back Josh Lewis in the warm-up to a serious-looking ankle injury , while flanker Ollie Griffiths (arm) and centre Jamie Roberts (knee) were early casualties.

Yellow cards for Ben Fry and Adam Hastings added to the early chaos, but Hastings had time before his departure to convert a forward rumble try from Brown, who had an excellent match on his return from long-term injury.

Sam Davies slotted over three first half-penalties but Gonzalo Bertranou lost the ball crossing the line, while Maclean sprinted through from 65 metres to score a brilliant individual try to give Glasgow momentum at 17-9 up going into half-time.

Dragons came out far more strongly and Nick Tompkins crossed the whitewash only to be recalled for a block by Ross Moriarty.

But Davies slotted a fourth penalty as visitors' captain Ryan Wilson was the third man to see yellow, keeping the Dragons in range going into the final quarter.

Jordan Williams then sped through a gap from a pass from Aneurin Owen for the first home try after 61 minutes, and with Dragons seizing control, lock Screech battered over six minutes later with Davies's two conversions taking them nine points clear.

Glasgow pounded away at the home 22 in the closing stages with Rhodri Williams yellow-carded, but they bizarrely turned down several opportunities to go for the posts and the home defence somehow held out to maintain the two-score margin.

Man of the match Sam Davies told BBC Sport Wales:

"We'd done our homework, we knew we had to stop them getting a bonus point to stay alive next week, and the boys dug deep at the end.

"We worked out the ramifications of all the results and we're in with a shout next week, luckily for us they didn't take the (penalty) points and our defence held so strong.

"We know we're a good side in the second half and our moments would come, it was far from perfect but the fact we're winning games now is credit to the boys and coaches.

"It was extremely chaotic but so enjoyable to be out there, I'm so happy and proud to be a Dragon because that was something special."

Glasgow Warriors head coach Danny Wilson:

"Not taking the last kick at goal was the wrong decision, but up until then we felt there was enough time to score a try and then try to win the game.

"It was a really poor second half performance, one of, if not the worst this season, we lacked accuracy and discipline again which is becoming a major, major issue.

"It was a poor day at the office. We played well in the first half to give ourselves opportunities, but fair play to the Dragons they put us under pressure and we had to weather a storm which seemed to take a lot out of us."
