Glasgow lock Scott Cummings offloads in the build-up to Ross Thompson's try

Glasgow kept alive hopes of Pro14 Rainbow Cup success with a bonus point win over Dragons in Cardiff.

Dragons built an early 10-point lead try but Glasgow benefitted from a yellow card to home captain Ross Moriarty.

Tries for Kyle Steyn, George Turner, and Ross Thompson, who also kicked 12 points, gave Glasgow the advantage.

A late score from replacement Kiran McDonald to seal the bonus point could prove crucial.

Glasgow are third in the table, level on points with Munster and three behind leaders Benetton.

The top European side will facing the leading South African team in a final in Italy on 19 June. Munster play their final match against Zebre on 11 June, with unbeaten Benetton travelling to play Ospreys the following day.

Glasgow will be able to lay down a marker in their final game on 4 June against league champions Leinster with the Scottish side shaking off an opening defeat against Benetton with three successive wins.

Dragons had switched the game to Cardiff City Stadium because the Rodney Parade pitch is having maintenance work ahead of next season.

The hosts have also played at the Principality Stadium where they defeated Glasgow in March during the regular Pro14 season.

Glasgow had 2021 British and Irish Lions Ali Price and Zander Fagerson in their starting side and appeared to have opened the scoring after strong surges from man-of-the-match Rory Darge and Cole Forbes helped set up a try for Nick Grigg.

It was ruled out for an illegal Fagerson forearm on Gonzalo Bertranou with Irish referee Chris Busby deeming a penalty was sufficient.

Dragons almost immediately punished them with a well-worked move for centre Aneurin Owen to score as he took advantage of a passive Glasgow defence. Davies converted and slotted over a penalty .

Impressive flanker Darge won a turnover penalty to help Thompson open Glasgow's account before Davies slotted over a drop-goal to restore the 10-point advantage.

Visiting skipper Ryan Wilson unsuccessfully tried to launch a captain's challenge in the build-up to the drop-goal after feeling he was the victim of a shoulder to his head.

Dragons skipper Moriarty was eventually yellow-carded for a no-arms tackle in the build-up to a Glasgow try for wing Steyn.

The visitors took advantage with a flowing move for a converted try for fly-half Thompson after outstanding offloads and build-up work from Turner, Scott Cummings and Price as Glasgow led 15-13 at half-time.

Dragons fly-half Sam Davies took over the skipper role and used his challenge to good effect with a Forbes try ruled out because of a knock-on from Turner.

Scotland's hooker soon made up for it when he was driven over for Glasgow's third try as Moriarty's yellow card proved costly with the hosts conceding 14 points while the Wales flanker was off the field.

Glasgow were rampant and scrum-half Price appeared to have scythed through for the bonus point try.

But television match official Dan Jones intervened and full-back Adam Hastings was deemed to have obstructed Jonah Holmes and another Glasgow try was disallowed.

Davies reduced the deficit to one score with his second penalty before replacement lock McDonald scored the bonus point try.

Dragons lost their captain's challenge after a Hastings pass to Rufus McLean was not deemed forward and Glasgow completed a maximum points victory.
