Dragons suffered a sixth successive defeat with another European Challenge Cup loss against French opposition.

After Dragons' loss at Perpignan, Lyon emerged victorious at Rodney Parade.

Two tries from Ethan Dumortier and further scores from Alfred Parisie and Jonathan Pélissié were aided by 21 points from Leo Berdeu.

Dragons responded with tries from Mesake Doge, Aki Seiuli and Aaron Wainwright.

Lyon lost their discipline as centre Thibaut Regard and replacement hooker Mickael Ivaldi were shown second-half yellow cards but Dragons could not fully capitalise despite having an extra man for 20 minutes.

That meant an eighth defeat in nine matches this season for Dean Ryan's men, with Lyon managing to win despite making nine changes to the team that beat Gloucester last weekend.

The match went ahead despite French travel rules leading to seven European fixtures being postponed this weekend.

Lyon, who had arrived in Wales before the decision on new rules was taken, and will return to France having claimed a bonus-point victory in front of 3,025 supporters.

Dragons director of rugby Dean Ryan: "I was quite pleased with some of the ways we handled that.

"We are struggling to hold foundations of the game so we have to play fast and I thought in the second half we did that against a good side and they struggled.

"We are going to make mistakes when we play that fast but it's the way we have to play. Some of our youngsters were outstanding and our attack was threatening against a very good side.

"We will make mistakes because of the way we are trying to play. We are clearly not at the same power levels of the sides we are being asked to play, so we are trying to find ways we can express ourselves and still be competitive in games."
