Leicester Tigers have signed winger Ben Woollett on a short-term deal after the financial collapse of the winger's former club Jersey Reds.

The 26-year-old was part of Jersey's Championship title-winning side last season, but was without a club after the Reds ceased trading this week.

Australian Woollett says he and his former team-mates "are still coming to terms" with Jersey's demise.

"This has obviously been an incredibly difficult week," he said.

"But I'm really grateful to Tigers for welcoming me in and giving me this opportunity.

"My job now is to put my best foot forward, work hard and get up to speed so I can contribute to the team any way I can."

Tigers head coach Dan McKellar says Woollett is an "impressive athlete".

"We're really pleased to be able to give Ben an opportunity off the back of a really sad and difficult time for a lot of people at the Jersey Reds," he told the Tigers website., external
