Northampton Saints have signed fly-half Charlie Savala on loan from Edinburgh.

The 23-year-old was born in Australia and began his career in rugby league with Sydney Roosters before switching codes and moving to Scotland in 2020.

He has made 33 appearances for Edinburgh and was drafted into Scotland's Six Nations squad as injury cover earlier this year.

"Charlie has a very good skillset, his pass-kick option is really good," said Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson.

"He's a really confident guy who wants to come here and play, so we're grateful to Edinburgh for allowing him the opportunity to come to Saints on loan.

"He's obviously got a rugby league background, so he has got the ability to see space and put people into it.

"From chatting to him, he clearly wants to get better. Sam Vesty, Lee Radford, and the rest of the crew are excited to coach him, and hopefully we can improve Charlie as a player during his time here with us."

Northampton have not disclosed the length of Savala's loan, but Edinburgh say it is "short-term".
