New Wales squad member Alex Mann has signed a long-term contract with Cardiff.

The flanker, 22, was one of five uncapped players named in Warren Gatland's Six Nations squad on Tuesday.

"As someone who came into the academy at 16 and progressed through the ranks, I feel privileged to sign a new contract," said Mann.

"I'm grateful to the coaches and staff who have believed in me and helped me get to this point."

Mann was joined by fellow uncapped players Mackenzie Martin, Evan Lloyd and Cameron Winnett among a 11-strong Cardiff contingent in the 34-man Wales squad.

After being on the books of Cardiff City football side as a youngster, Mann captained Wales Under-20s in two consecutive years.

The back row has made 10 appearances for Cardiff this season and is currently top of the United Rugby Championship (URC) tackle count.

"I have enjoyed the start of the season and the way it has gone for me," said Mann.

"Having been given the opportunity and to have people trust in me, reinforces my belief in what I can do. Now, I just want to improve each day and continue working hard with my team-mates.

"To have the chance to do that with Cardiff is even more special. It is my home club and I have grown up watching great Cardiff teams and players in the past - hopefully I can follow in their footsteps."

Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt added: "Alex is another young player who has been a standout for us this year.

"We were delighted to see his form recognised with an international call up and we are delighted he has also extended his contract.

"It is crucial we retain our best young players as we continue to rebuild.

"Alex has been excellent on both sides of the ball. He's a great professional, who is hungry to improve and learn as much as possible."
