Gwalia Lightning (0) 5

Try: M Davies

Sioned Harries ended her 14-year career in style, scoring a try and a drop goal to help Brython Thunder to a Welsh derby victory over Gwalia Lightning in the Celtic Challenge.

The Wales great announced her retirement this week after 78 Tests.

Brython ran in five tries, with other scores from Ellie Tromans, Amy Williams, Shona Wakely and Amy Morgan.

Mollie Davies crossed for Gwalia, but it was Harries' afternoon as she left the field to a standing ovation.

It was a fitting end for the former Wales number eight and the 700-strong Llanelli crowd played their part in ensuring it was a memorable send-off.

Brython, who had lost the reverse fixture to Gwalia on 1 January, were dominant in the first half.

Great handling from the forwards saw the ball shipped out wide to Tromans, who scooped up a loose pass and backed her pace to cross for the opener.

Fly-half Seren Singleton ripped the ball inside her own half to launch a counter attack which released Williams on the wing to double Brython's lead.

Wakely continued her impressive form in the tournament, picking up and wriggling her way over from close range.

The loudest applause of the afternoon was saved for Harries, who broke several tackles to power over in trademark style and wrap up the bonus-point before half time.

Gwalia came back out the stronger of the two sides and despite some plucky defending, the penalty count built on Brython and Singleton was eventually sent to the sin bin.

Gwalia launched a series of pick-and-goes and Davies forced her way over from a metre out.

Gwalia's discipline then came under the spotlight and Brython extended their lead off a five metre driving line-out, Morgan, who had put in a 78 minute shift at replacement hooker, getting her rewards.

Harries sat in the pocket for what the crowd knew was coming for her final act of play - and fittingly in a red shirt - and she nailed the drop goal from 15 metres out.

Even the Gwalia players showed their appreciation as she left the field two minutes from time to bring the curtain down on a superb career.

Both Welsh sides finished their Celtic Challenge campaigns with three wins, with Gwalia's superior points different seeing them finish third overall, with Brython in fifth.

Lloyd rescues Edinburgh against Clovers

Celtic Challenge: Clovers v Edinburgh Rugby

Tries: McNamara, Lloyd Con: Marlow

Returning GB sevens star Rhona Lloyd scored on her first Edinburgh start to earn her side a 12-12 draw against Irish side Clovers in the first of the double head at Parc y Scarlets.

Edinburgh had already sealed second spot last weekend behind champions Wolfhounds, while Clovers finished their campaign in fourth.

Clovers dominated possession and territory for most of the first half, but Edinburgh struck first, Briar McNamara crossing just before the break after a powerful run to the line.

Nicole Marlow added the conversion to give the Scots a 7-0 half-time lead.

A rejuvenated Clovers hit back early in the second half, Claire Gorman finding space on the wing after a solid Irish scrum.

They were back in again after a crossfield kick resulted in a red face moment for Edinburgh wing Cieron Bell, who misjudged the high ball to allow Clara Barrett in for an easy score.

Kate Flannery added the conversion.

Edinburgh finished the stronger and got their deserved draw when Lloyd was put over on her wing in the final minute.
