Huw Jones says Scotland must beat Australia on Sunday if their Autumn Nations Series is to be deemed a success.
The Scots beat Fiji and Portugal either side of a defeat to world champions South Africa.
Now they face a resurgent Wallabies side that has registered back-to-back victories over England and Wales.
"Looking at the games coming in, we knew obviously the South Africa and Australia games would be the big challenges," centre Jones said.
"We obviously have aspirations to be successful as a team, as a squad, and we have to be winning the games against the top seven teams in the world.
"Those are games that we have to start winning now if we really want to be taken seriously.
"It's all well and good beating Fiji and Portugal and then winning our games on the summer tour, but we want to take strides.
"The South Africa game was disappointing but we've got to nail it this weekend against Australia."

Jones has been impressed with how Australia have recovered from a difficult spell - which included a pool-stage exit at the 2023 Rugby World Cup - to deliver victories at Twickenham and Cardiff.
"They've been really good, [scored] a lot of tries," said the Glasgow Warriors back.
"They've got threats everywhere really. You see the way their forwards are carrying, you see what their backs are doing.
"I think it's an exciting challenge. Hopefully, weather dependent, it'll be an open game. When we've played against Australia in the past, it's been a pretty fun one to be involved in, free-flowing, so we'd hope for that again.
"We'd hope to imprint our game onto them. Our defence we see now as quite a strength of ours, so knowing that they're coming with their running game, that's a big challenge that we're looking forward to. But with our attack, we want to impose that on the game as well."
