Worcester Warriors head coach Matt Everard says he can accept any "clunkiness" in his side's early-season displays as his recently-assembled squad continues to gel.

Constructing the side from scratch this summer, Everard brought in 34 players for the former Premiership club's return to the sport after nearly three years of financial rebuilding following administration.

He has continued to tweak the squad with further short-term loan deals over the course of the first three weeks of the Champ campaign.

After a narrow defeat at Hartpury, Warriors returned to winning ways in style with Friday's bonus-point 56-28 victory over Ampthill - a game in which seven players made their full debuts.

"The cohesion and gelling is an ongoing thing for the whole group and you probably see that at times when we are a little bit clunky," Everard told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"But it never comes from a lack of effort, which is the most important thing for us."

Under the lights at Sixways on Friday, hooker Jasper Spandler - one of the seven full debutants alongside fellow front-rowers Mikey Summerfield and Ashley Challenger, second-row Hallam Chapman, fly-half Tiff Eden and wingers Will Trewin and Juan Gonzalez - set the tone against Ampthill with a fifth-minute score.

Spandler went over again on 22 minutes before Matt Kvesic and Trewin both crossed to give the home side a 28-21 lead at half-time.

Kvesic and Trewin scored again in the second half with Tim Anstee and Eden also dotting down, the latter adding eight conversions for a personal 21-point haul.

"We tried to execute a really fast gameplan," Everard added. "We wanted to put a load of tempo into the game and wanted the fans to enjoy the brand of rugby we play.

"We want to play physical, entertaining rugby and when we did that we looked dangerous. I was really pleased for the players who played their first game for the club - they did everyone, themselves, the fans and the club proud."

With seasoned second-tier campaigners Doncaster up next for Warriors, Everard says everyone in the squad will need to be ready to play their part.

"We are going to need to rotate - we need to grow the group and experience individuals playing together to grow across for the longer term," he said.

"Ampthill were two [wins] from two and very well coached and we're going to another very good team in Doncaster who've been right up there in the last decade in the Champ.

"They're a good template for the Champ. They're well drilled and have some serious X-factor in their back three. So we're really looking forward to that challenge."
