Cardiff wing Iwan Stephens has signed a long-term contract with the Welsh region, having initially signed on a one-year deal.

The 24-year-old scored two tries in his first four games for Cardiff before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in training.

Stephens, who scored 11 tries in 25 games for his former club Newcastle Falcons, is expected to miss the rest of the 2024-25 season due to the injury.

"I'm really excited to have signed a new deal with Cardiff, I have really enjoyed my time here so far," said Stephens.

"Obviously I am gutted that my season was cut short early, but I loved pulling on the blue and black jersey and will back better than before to show everyone what I am capable of."

Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt said he was "delighted" with the deal.

"He is a great lad, who has a real hunger to learn and give his best for the club, and he has grasped his opportunity with both hands," said Sherratt.

"I have no doubt that he will come back ahead of next season with the same appetite to succeed.

"So I am delighted to keep him here at the club and it is something he thoroughly deserves."

Stephens joins Ben Thomas, Cam Winnett, Liam Belcher and Teddy Williams in signing new long-term deals with the Welsh region.
