Dragons lock Steve Cummins has returned to Scarlets on a short-term loan because of an injury crisis.

The 33-year-old Australian has travelled west for a second spell at the club and could feature in Friday's home United Rugby Championship (URC) fixture against Stormers after being named on the bench.

Scarlets were already without Sam Lousi, Jac Price and Will Evans before losing Wales international Jake Ball to a head injury in training this week.

Cummins made 46 appearances for Scarlets between 2017 and 2020, helping them to the final of the Pro14 and semi-finals of the Champions Cup in 2018, before leaving for Pau.

The 6ft 7ins forward signed a two-year contract with the Dragons in 2024 but made just six appearances last season because of injuries.

The Australian has not played for the Rodney Parade club since March and is currently behind Wales internationals Ben Carter, Matthew Screech and Seb Davies plus summer signing Levi Douglas in the pecking order.

Scarlets host Stormers before finishing the first block of the URC in South Africa against Lions and Sharks.
