Sailor Chris Grube has been selected in the mixed dinghy class alongside Vita Heathcote for the Paris Olympics.

Grube joins fellow Welshman Michael Beckett in the Team GB sailing squad.

He will be appearing at his third Olympics after he competed at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, finishing fifth both times.

"I just wanted one last opportunity to see what we can do this time around," Grube said.

The mixed dinghy class is a new class, replacing the separate men's and women's 470 events to make one new mixed event.

Grube and Heathcote only started sailing together eight months ago but earned their selection with a silver medal at the recent World Championships.

"Last year, coming into the World Championships, Vita needed a crew," Grube told British Sailing.

"We thought we'd test out our partnership together at that event.

"We had a good result there, then six months training down the line and we were second at the World Champs this year.

Olympic dream

"For me it was just the opportunity to come back. I've had 20 years in this boat and my dream is always to go to the Olympics and medal.

"We're relatively late in the game coming back to it but the ground we've covered in six months has been amazing.

"We've really prioritised certain aspects that are going to make the biggest difference to us and so we'll continue to have that ethos going forwards.

"We'll not try and change too much - we're racing well - so we'll carry that forwards."
