Dutch referee Kevin Blom denied Scotland a late penalty against the Czechs

Craig Levein has called for referee Kevin Blom to be demoted but says his Scotland side must move on from the controversial draw with Czech Republic.

The coach thought Blom wrongly awarded the Czechs a late penalty then denied one to his side in the 2-2 draw.

"I don't know what standard the referee is supposed to be of, but I would hope he would get demoted for his performance," Levein told BBC Scotland.

"But that isn't my concern now. I am looking to Tuesday against Lithuania."

The draw leaves Scotland with only an outside chance of qualifying for a play-off place to reach the Euro 2012 finals.

They sit five points adrift of the Czechs with only Lithuania's visit to Hampden as their game in hand and could have to beat world champions and Group I leaders Spain on their own soil in their final game to steal second place.

"I am absolutely sick, I really am, particularly for the supporters," said Levein.

"They have come here, they were fantastic and they have seen their team conned out of a victory.

"The players are very angry as you can imagine.

"They did everything and we certainly haven't given up on qualifying.

"We are getting better and I saw enough today to give us encouragement.

"We need to win all our games, but that is a challenge that we are ready for and there is fire in the players' bellies and we use that on Tuesday."

However, Levein has selection problems for the visit of a Lithuanian side who are themselves looking to bounce back from being held 0-0 at home by Liechtenstein.

Levein believes his Scotland side are continuing to make progress

Kenny Miller, who scored the opening goal and set up Darren Fletcher to put the Scots 2-1 ahead, and midfielder Scott Brown are both suspended after picking up yellow cards against the Czechs.

Craig Mackail-Smith, who would be a natural replacement for Miller up front but was not fit enough for the bench on Saturday, is again an injury doubt along with Charlie Adam, Phil Bardsley and Alan Hutton, the trio picking up knocks against the Czechs.

"Craig has a back problem and we will look at him again to see if there is any improvement because obviously he would certainly come into contention," said Levein.

"We will see if I bring anyone else in, but it gives opportunities for other people."

Under Levein, the Scots have only gathered five points in five qualifying games - the worst record in nearly 20 years - but the coach insists that his side are progressing.

"Ultimately, we are where we are," he said. "The encouraging thing for me is we played some good stuff.

"They gave everything they had and there's absolutely no criticism from me to them."
